An Israeli citizen reported missing in the United Arab Emirates has been discovered murdered, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s office on Sunday, which condemned the act as a “heinous antisemitic terrorist act.” Zvi Kogan, a rabbi affiliated with the Orthodox Jewish organization Chabad, disappeared on Thursday.
“The state of Israel will employ all available resources to ensure that those responsible for his murder are brought to justice,” the prime minister’s statement indicated.
The UAE’s foreign ministry has not yet responded to reports regarding the discovery of Kogan’s body, who also held Moldovan citizenship.
Chabad aims to foster connections with unaffiliated and secular Jews, as well as other Jewish denominations. The organization’s branch in the UAE provides support to thousands of Jewish visitors and residents, as noted on its website. In light of recent events, Israeli authorities have reiterated their advisory against all non-essential travel to the UAE and urged those currently in the region to limit their movements and stay in secure locations.
